Every device which is connected to the Internet has a specific identifier called IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes computers, web servers, smartphones, switches, etcetera. The pool of IPs, that was introduced at first, has been distributed, so the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are progressively being replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name which opens a website comes with an IP record, that is the address of the server where it is hosted. Using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it comprises of 4 groups of numbers from 1 to 255 separated with a dot, while with the IPv6 system it's called AAAA and it is comprised of eight sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this kind of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format works with a significantly larger amount of IPs than the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Shared Web Hosting
If you'd like to create a new AAAA record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your shared web hosting account, it won't take you more than several easy steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is extremely intuitive to use and is going to allow you to create or edit every single record with ease. After you log in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you can find all current records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you'll simply have to click the "New" button, choose AAAA from a small drop-down menu in the pop-up that'll appear, enter or paste the required IPv6 address and save the modification - it is as basic as that. The new record shall be fully functioning within only one hour and the hostname which you have created it for is going to start opening whatever content you have with the other company. When required, you will also be able to modify the TTL (Time To Live) value, which signifies the time in seconds which the new record will be live after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply delete it.
